SHS Senior wins NIAAA scholarship

SHS Grad wins State and Sectional NIAAA scholarship

SHS is pleased to announce that Class of 2022 Graduate Trevor Schwartz has been awarded both the Nebraska State Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Scholarship as well as the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Section V Scholarship.

The rigorous application process includes criteria such as academic achievement, lettering in multiple varsity sports, letters of recommendation and an submission of an essay and book reflection.   Schwartz's essay on how high school athletics has impacted his life will move on to compete at the national level.

After first winning the the district and state award for males, Schwartz was then entered into the NIAAA Section V Scholarship competition.  The NIAAA Section V submits one Male & Female from each of the following states in Section V - Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota.

The NIAAA Section V Scholarship Selection Committee then rated each of these students on a rubric based on their application and essay that they submitted.

Trevor was selected as the NIAAA Section V Winner, and received a NIAAA Section V Winner Plaque as well as an additional $1500 in scholarship funds (after first receiving $250 and $500 scholarships at the state level). He will now move on the NIAAA National Scholarship process with eight Males & Females vying for the NIAAA National Scholarship Award of $2500.
