Each Year Scottsbluff Public Schools recognizes one outstanding community partner as Friend of the District. At the District Retirement and Recognition Ceremony, the Midwest Theater was recognized as the 2023 Friend of the District.
"Scottsbluff Public Schools is incredibly grateful for the support the Midwest Theater provides in the enhancement of our educational programming. The opportunities afforded to our students enrich the learning experience, and assist in ensuring we are meeting the needs of the whole child and achieving our mission," said Dr. Andrew Dick, SBPS Superintendent.
The Midwest Theater has been a long-time supporter of Scottsbluff Public Schools. Some examples include making free matinee performances from their Performing Arts Series available that our schools take advantage of. These include vocal and instrumental musical performances, Missoula Children's Theater Performances, and dance performances. Some performances have student study guides that teachers can use to create historical or cultural lessons to pair with the performances and even in-school workshops for things like poetry, songwriting and acting that schools can participate in. In addition to this, the Theater provides a number of movie opportunities for student rewards and activities at a discounted rate and hosts a number of community events and training opportunities taken advantage of by our staff. They have also provided an alternate location for district meeting needs such as the SBPS All-Staff Meeting.
Friends of the District are recognized annually at the SBPS/SEA Retirement and Recognition Ceremony. In addition, each school also recognizes its own Friend of Education:
Bear Cub Preschool - Joan Smith
Lake Minatare - Ruth Garza
Lincoln Heights - Ashley Strand
