Elementary Modernization Continues
Elementary Modernization Continues with Work at Longfellow Elementary
The SBPS Elementary Modernization Project has completed its second year with Longfellow Elementary joining Roosevelt Elementary in getting an updated, refreshed classroom environment for students. Modernization at Longfellow included some of the same elements as Roosevelt such as new paint, new classroom and library/media center furniture, new interactive smartboards, updated lighting, and a new gym floor. In addition, Longfellow's project included repurposing existing spaces, such as the health office, and the stage, to better meet the current needs of students and staff.
The mission of the SBPS Elementary Modernization Project is; In a fiscally prudent, systemic and future-focused manner, to improve the quality of teaching and learning for students and staff at SBPS elementary schools. This will be accomplished through a well-planned, phased modernization (annually by school) that will serve to enhance the safety, functionality, adaptability, comfort, and aesthetics of each facility.
Using funds budgeted from the District’s depreciation and building funds set aside for this purpose as well as ESSER III funds, each in-town elementary school will be modernized. This project does not require a bond and has no impact on Scottsbluff taxpayers. Currently, Scottsbluff Public Schools has 5 elementary schools that serve over 1300 students in grades K-5. The average age of a Scottsbluff elementary school is 77 years old.
