The Mu Alpha Theta National Convention, the national math contest, took place at the Alexis Park Resort in Las Vegas July 7-11, 2024. Mu Alpha Theta is the national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society. Hundreds of students and sponsors from around the country gather each summer to participate in competitive mathematics. In addition, the group participates in a social outing. This year, Scottsbluff High School students enjoyed a show at The Sphere and took in the Bellagio Fountain afterward. 33 Scottsbluff High School Mu Alpha Theta members competed in 55 events throughout the week. Powered by 32 top 25 finishes across 55 events, Scottsbluff High School earned 10th place overall.
SHS Math students have been practicing throughout the summertime to prepare for the convention. These students will take five to seven competition exams over the course of four days. In addition, they will enjoy a social outing, tour, and show organized by Mu Alpha Theta at The Sphere on Wednesday, July 10th.
Scottsbluff’s top 10 finishes were in Theta Chalk Talk (Hilario Vaquera-Martinez, 7th), the Interschool Team Competition (8th), Alpha Gemini (Jayden Lindley, 8th), Alpha Division Team (9th), and Theta Division Team (9th). Natalie Larsen was voted the 2024-2025 Student Delegate Assembly National Vice President. Shelby Aaberg was elected the Mu Alpha Theta Region 1 Governor. The Scottsbluff High School students that placed in the top 25 are listed below. Scottsbluff High School Sponsors Shelby Aaberg and Christina Hays would like to thank the dozens of businesses that donated over $24,000 so that these students could have the opportunity to compete. The 2025 Mu Alpha Theta National Convention will take place in Orlando, Florida July 6-11, 2025.
