Scottsbluff Schools receives Beyond the School Bells Grant, Launch new Summer Program
One Hundred Scottsbluff students are taking part in a new Summer Enrichment Program created by Scottsbluff Public Schools. SBPS received a $15,000 Summer Innovation grant from Beyond the School Bells to start the program which is being held Monday through Thursday from 11:30-3:30 from May 24th to June 17th and serves students grades K-5.
Students attending the program will be taking part in a wide variety of activities and outdoor classroom labs led by SBPS staff and community partners such as the Riverside Discovery Center and Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. Examples of activities include gardening, fishing, bird watching, nature walks and journaling, disc golf, yoga, book club, physical activity, knot tying and STEM challenges.
The program is held at Westmoor Elementary but students from across the District are participating. Lunch is included and students who attend summer school have transportation provided from all other elementary schools. The District has employed ten paraeducators and a programming supervisor to operate the program.
