SHS Students recognized for All State Chorus, Band and Orchestra

Each year, approximately 3,000 of the best high school musicians in the state audition for the Nebraska All-State Band, Chorus, Jazz Band and Orchestra which are sponsored by the Nebraska Music Education Association. Selection as a member of one of these groups is one of the highest music honors attainable in Nebraska.

CHORUS

Mr. Lynn Hall, Director of Choral Affairs for the Nebraska Music Education Association, is pleased to announce that

will be among the 440 students selected to be a part of the 2020 All-State Chorus.  Guest conductor for the group will be Dr. Lee Nelson, director of choral activities Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The All State Chorus normally attends and rehearses at a clinic in November with a final concert at the Lied Center on the UNL campus. Due to COVID-19, this year’s All State Chorus will produce a virtual choir under the direction of Dr. Lee Nelson. 

BAND 

Mr. Matthew Rom, Director of Band Affairs for the Nebraska Music Education Association, is pleased to announce that:

Josie Brezenski, Bass Clarinet (2nd year) and

Jamisyn Howard, Horn (4th year)

will be among the 160 students selected to be a part of the 2020 All-State Band. The guest conductor for the group will be Paula Crider. She is Professor Emerita at The University of Texas. The All-State Band normally attends and rehearses at a clinic in November with a final concert at the Lied Center on the UNL campus. Due to COVID-19, this year’s All-State Band will produce a virtual band under the direction of Paula Crider.

 

ORCHESTRA

Mr. Troy Peters, Director of Orchestra for the Nebraska Music Education Association, is pleased to announce that:

Lluvia Montelongo, Cello (2nd year)

will be among the students selected to be a part of the 2020 All-State Orchestra.  Students will get a one-hour masterclass meeting with the 2020 NMEA All-State Orchestra Director, Maestro Troy Peters, which will include a Q & A section. The experience will also include a one-hour masterclass by a professional violinist, violist, cellist, and bassist.
