Welcome to Healthy Living!
6th Grade Cooking Day December 7
Thanks to our collaboration with the University of Nebraska Outreach Educator Tammie Ostdiek, our sixth grade classes have enjoyed nutrition lessons on Fridays. This coming Friday, December 7, we will be cooking three recipes and sampling them! We are learning the importance of making healthful choices like getting plenty of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, while we monitor our intake of sugar and trans fats. Ask your sixth grader about what they cook and eat!!!!
Healthy Living is a nine-week exploratory class at BMS for the 2018-2019 school year. In this class, we will discover and practice Healthy Living principles based on National and State Health and PE education standards. The topics we study examine the physical, social, and emotional well-being for adolescents. Specific grade level topics are defined from the following unit topics:
Health and Wellness
Emotions and Behaviors
Social and Anti-Social Behaviors
Injury Prevention and Violence
Decision Making and Problem Solving
Physical Activity and Nutrition
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs
Our main curriculum, Healthy Lifestyle Choices, promotes positive health behaviors and guides students to be advocates for their own health through projects, discussion, art, teamwork, individual journaling, skits, and community connections.
