Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to Panther ELA!
My name is Emily Kearney, and this is my 13th year of teaching. I graduated from Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University) in 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in 7-12 English. From there, I began my teaching career with the Omaha Public Schools, teaching at Bryan Middle School. There I taught 7th and 8th grade Reading for 11 years. During that time, I also earned my first Master's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in ESL and ELL from UNO, and began work on my second in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. I took a break from teaching for a year to spend time with my two young children, Emery and Zoey. During that time, I also worked part-time at Children's Hospital in Omaha, working at the Rainbow House.
I'm excited to see what this year will bring! I will also be assisting Mrs. Pinney this year with the Speech team at the high school.
We are using a new curriculum this year entitled Wit and Wisdom. This is a very rigorous curriculum that will challenge your student while developing their reading and writing skills. I have linked the website below, which has a plethora of information for you to peruse about the curriculum and its design. I have also attached the parent tips sheet from the company for each module for you to look at.
