  • HOSA State Competition Students interested in pursuing a career in health sciences can get started in a rewarding career path within the one of many health sciences pathways.  Students enrolled in the Health Sciences Academy are exposed to a variety of medical careers and will explore basic health care concepts and learn essential skills.  Comprehensive programming in this pathway provides students general career readiness skills and specific health industry knowledge that will aid in obtaining entry level employment.  For students seeking post-secondary education, the academy will prepare students to be competitive and confident as they seek to reach their career goals. 

Student Experiences and Projects

  • Students enrolled in the Health Sciences Academy will have the opportunity to participate in a project based, student driven atmosphere.  Students will research medical careers, participate in field trips, and have the opportunity to participate in HOSA activities.  Students may become CPR certified, participate in clinical internships and job shadows, and perform hands-on activities.  Students will work closely with the community and take college level courses while enrolled in the Health Sciences Academy.

    Biomedical Research (Pre), Medical Office Management, Dietetics, Dentistry (Pre), EMT, Health Information Technology, Medical Technology (Pre), Medicine (Pre), Nursing, Physical Therapy (Pre), Radiological Technology (Pre), Surgical Technician.

    • Associates of Arts
    • Associates of Science Degree


    • No cost for dual credit classes taught at SHS by an SHS instructor 
    • Dual credit classes taught at WNCC or at SHS by a WNCC instructor...
      • If school required as part of a Career Academy = no cost
      • If not school required = half of normal credit hour tuition
    • Textbooks will be issued by SBPS for all dual credit classes and will remain property of SBPS
