Mr. Matt Parsley

I have been in education since 1985. The first two years I taught History at Marty Indian School in Marty, South Dakota. With the exception of two years, I have been at Scottsbluff High School teaching History, Government, Sociology and Geography since 1989. I took military leave in 2003-04 to attend Command and General Staff Officer's College. In 2006-2007 I deployed to Iraq with the 734th Transportation Battalion out of Kearney, NE. I am a single parent with three kids. My son, Ian, age 29, graduated from UNL in 2013 with an engineering degree and from UNMC with a doctorate in medicine in 2019. He currently is doing his residency at Washington University in Saint Louis. My daughter, Madelin, age 27, graduated in 2015 from Amherst College with a BS in English and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Vanderbilt University in 2019. She is currently finishing up a one year fellowship at Vanderbilt. My youngest son, Lucas, who is 25, graduated from UNL in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He currently is a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and is stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska .  I received my undergraduate in History at Dakota State College in Madison, S.D. in 1983 and my Masters in Social Science from Chadron State College in 1996. I retired from the  Nebraska Army National Guard in 2011 with 33 years of service. Currently I am the advisor for Mock Trial.
