Welcome to Mrs. Downey's Speech-Language Pathology Page
Degrees and Certifications:
I am a Nebraska and ASHA certified speech-language pathologist, M.S., CCC-SLP. I received an M.S. degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, and began my career in Texas City, Texas, over thirty years ago. After staying home to rear our children and home school all four, I returned to work.
During the 2020-2021 school year, I am excited to return to in-person contact with our children and their families! Early childhood learning is most effective when based in play and active engagement with consistent adults and peers. The goal of early intervention is to meet the needs of children from birth to kindergarten and prepare them to be as successful as possible. Birth through age five are critical years in the development of a child and wonderful opportunities to work cooperatively with families as children develop the skills necessary to be successful in school and in relationships. The focus of early intervention includes all areas of child development. The focus of speech-language therapy is specifically centered on eating concerns, social language, language understanding and use, and speech intelligibility (how well a child's speech is understood).
I would love to talk to you if you have any questions or concerns about your child's development. Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 308-641-4908.
