Welcome to Mrs. Smith's 2nd Grade
Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Michelle Smith and I am so privileged to be working with students at Westmoor Elementary this school year! I am so excited to get to know all these fantastic 2nd graders. I love the littles and all the joy they bring to each day!
I graduated from Chadron State College with my Bachelor's in Science/Elementary Education in 2015. Though I'm a recent graduate, I'm not new to education. I was a paraeducator for 5 years at Northfield Elementary in Gering where I was blessed to work with amazing teachers, students and staff. I volunteered many hours to the YMCA, the preschool and daycare, and even cared for children in my own home and Lollipop Lane Daycare. I was also involved with AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) for many years! I love seeing children be awesome!
My husband, Ryan, and I have been married for over 24 years and have 3 amazing (if I do say so myself) children ranging from 23 to 16. Two boys, Gage and Ethan, and one girl, Morgan, keep me young by challenging me daily to see the best in every situation! Not a day goes by when laughing and crying happen simultaneously!
Parenting allows me to see all the sides of education as I have been in your shoes more than once. A positive teacher-parent relationship is important to ensure the success of our students. I say "our" because we will work as a team for the course of this school year. Together we can guarantee an amazing year of learning!
What's Happening in 2nd Grade
During the year, we will be making a conscious effort to be positive in all things. I always promote positivity as a means to success. I never give work that is too difficult for my students. Every student is capable of success, some just take different paths to reach the destination. I would challenge all parents to promote positivity within the home:)
