Helpful Hints for first grade:
***Make learning at home fun! Take everyday items at home and ask your child to make a number equation with them. For example, take 4 spoons and ask your child to add them to 3 forks. 4+3=7 Make it fun!!!
***Have your child write stories about their day at home. Ask them to write with lots of details so that you can picture in your head what they are writing about. Have them read their work out loud to the whole family. This can be great family time!
***Read with your child everyday! It can be a book that I send home with them, or it can be a familiar family favorite! Make this a fun event! I want your child to fall in love with reading. If reading is frustrating for your child, take turns reading pages to each other. In time, your child will be able to read to you! Enjoy this special time with your youngster!
***Celebrate your child's successes! Every child learns at their own pace. Support them at each step in the process!
***Remember that we are partners in your child's education! Please contact me with any concerns you have!
Items to Think About and Reinforce at Home---
Watch the weather. This time of year the weather can change very quickly. A light jacket is always a good idea in the morning. Better to be prepared than suffer through a cold outdoor recess.
We are working on using good manners at school. Please reinforce the ideas of using please and thank you, as well as excuse me. These are important social skills that your child will use for his/her entire life.
