Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Clarkson

I am a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University.  I began my teaching career in St. Louis, Missouri.  I also taught in Madison, Nebraska.  After starting a family, I took a number of years off to raise my children.  My family and I moved to Scottsbluff in 2005. I have worked in various positions in the Scottsbluff school district.  This will be my tenth year of teaching 1st grade in Scottsbluff!  I am looking forward to a great 2019-2020 school year! Go Bearcats!!!!

  • In 2020, Mrs. Clarkson's 1st Graders will ...

leave a little sparkle wherever they go!!!

    Helpful Hints for first grade:

***During this health shutdown please check the SBPS e-learning section (on the home page of SBPS website) and your remind messages.  Activities to do with your child at home will be linked to these locations.  New lessons will be added each Friday.  The lessons are tied to Nebraska standards, so your 1st grader can stay on track for success.  Send me a message via email (jclarkson@sbps.net) or remind and I will get back to you ASAP if you need help or have concerns.

***Make learning at home fun!  Take everyday items at home and ask your child to make a number equation with them.  For example, take 4 spoons and ask your child to add them to 3 forks.  4+3=7  Make it fun!!!

***Have your child keep a picture and writing journal during this time.  When it is over, put it away in a safe place and save it for them until they are older. We are living through historic times.  When your child is much older, they will have a piece of history, through their own eyes, to share with people about what it was like to live through this pandemic.

***Read with your child everyday!  Make this a fun event!  I want your child to fall in love with reading.  If reading is frustrating for your child, take turns reading pages to each other.  In time, your child will be able to read to you!  Enjoy this special time with your youngster!

***Celebrate your child's successes!  Every child learns at their own pace.  Support them at each step in the process!

***Remember that we are partners in your child's education!  Please contact me with any concerns you have!
