Special Education 8th Grade Tigers
Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Michael J. Scanlon email@example.com
I will be Teaching Co-Taught Math and English Language Arts on the 8th grade Tiger Team. I will also be teaching Math in the TLC room, Social Emotional Learning, and Collaboration and Intervention.
My Goal is to make a difference in the lives of all my students!
This is my sixth year at Bluffs Middle School and my thirtieth of teaching. I have been in the Education Profession since 1988. I earned my Bachelor's Degree at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) in 1988 with endorsements in History, Physical Education, and Coaching. I also earned a Master Degree in Administration from Doane College in 2007and a Master Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Behavioral Disorders at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) in December 2013.
In addition to teaching, I have worked part-time as a social worker for Child Savings Institute and Visinet in Omaha, Nebraska from 2007-2012.
My philosophy is that all children have unique talents to be successful regardless of the challenges they are enduring. It is my responsibility to assist students in identifying their talents by motivating them in learning the skills of self-advocacy and self-determination. By learning these skills, students will develop confidence in themselves which will enable them to take ownership in their learning.
Two things I believe are:
"Be the change you want to see in the World."
"Children who struggle each day in their classrooms are not learning because they don't want to, they are lagging the skills to be successful. All children want to learn if they can."
