Scottsbluff High School, in partnership with a committee made up of past graduates, coaches, community members, past employees and former athletes, is in the process of establishing a Scottsbluff High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Purpose
The purpose of the Scottsbluff High School Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize the athletic accomplishments of Scottsbluff High School students, coaches and others associated with Scottsbluff High School whose contributions to athletics are worthy of merit.
Criteria
For Athletes
1. Waiting period - 10 years
2. Special circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis (e.g. sickness)
3. Stipulation referring to the good moral character issue during & after high school. The committee reserves the right to remove any inductee at any time for moral or character violations.
4. Major criteria would be accomplishments while attending Scottsbluff High School.
5. Accomplishments after SHS are considered, but not primary rationale.
6. Multiple sports are given high priority to encourage multi-sport participation.
7. All State recognition (Omaha World Herald & Lincoln Journal Star) is considered to be first or second team in one's sport (FB, VB, BB, SO, etc) or first or second in one’s individual event sport (Track, Wrestling, Swimming,Tennis, etc....). These athletes will be strongly considered for recognition.
8. Members of a team that participated in a State Championship/State Runner-Up will be given consideration. Other consideration may be given to school record holders.
For Coaches
1. Waiting period - No waiting period.
2. Stipulation referring to the good moral character issue during and after coaching. The committee reserves the right to remove any inductee at any time for moral or character violations.
3. Special circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis.
4. Major criteria would be coaching accomplishments at Scottsbluff High School.
5. Accomplishments not at SHS are considered but not primary rationale.
For Teams
1. Waiting period - 5 years
For Meritorious Service
1. Will be considered on a case by case basis.
2. Person must have demonstrated exemplary service to the student athletes.
Families:
1. Will be considered on a case by case basis.
2. Family must have demonstrated exemplary service over the course of several generations to the Scottsbluff High School Athletic Department.
3. Data to support the nomination.
Timeline
The goal of our committee is to announce our first induction class this fall at halftime of the Scottsbluff vs York Football game on September 15th. All induction members will be honored at a dinner prior to the game at Scottsbluff High School.
Need
1. Number & Occasion of Induction
Beginning after the 2023-24 induction year, the number of inductees will be determined by the selection committee. Coaches, teams, families, and/or meritorious service inductions will be in addition to the athletes.
2. To create a more open process, nomination forms will be made available on the Scottsbluff Website and can be submitted to the committee prior to July 31st.
