Who We Are

  • Why SB

Like any meaningful human endeavor, education can get pretty complicated. It’s easy to get so caught up in all the intricacies and differing perspectives that clarity gets lost and little real progress ever gets made.

However, it’s exciting for us to say - and say with confidence - that Scottsbluff Public Schools remain focused. Goals are clearly articulated, priorities are well evidenced and we are getting better all the time.

Our students are thriving in multiple areas of academics, athletics and activities. Test scores and graduation rates are up. The finest high school facility in the region is being built thanks to strong community support. District enrollment continues to grow. Our students and our teachers are accomplishing great things together.

“Scottsbluff Public Schools has many programs in place to address the academic, social, emotional, and mental health of learn

  • Welcome to Scottsbluff Public Schools! You will find that our district has all of the big city opportunities that SBPS Logo larger school districts have, but we offer a small town atmosphere and close-knit community as well. At Scottsbluff Public Schools our mission statement is:

    Every Child, Every Day Everywhere!

We strive for excellence in academics and recognize that we are growing future leaders and active community members. Our teachers and staff are among the very best and are committed to helping each student find individual achievement through instruction and example.

There are ten educational facilities in the district, including one early childhood school (three and four year olds), five elementary K-5 schools, one middle school (grades 6-8) and one senior high (grades 9-12).  Additionally, we have CHOICES, a smaller, personalized program for students seeking a more “hands-on” learning environment and ReConnect, a drop-out prevention and retrieval program for youth aged 17-21.

Bear Cub Preschool Scottsbluff Early Childhood Program

Four preschool classrooms are located in the Scottsbluff Bear Cub Preschool. The newly remodeled center is designed to meet the individual developmental needs of children ages 3-4. Three teachers work cooperatively to teach lessons that focus on active learning. Children receive special one-on-one attention from educators, as there is one adult for every 5 children in the preschool. Programming is offered on a half-day and full-day basis. Enrollment is typically filled very early each spring, so early registration is encouraged.

    Elementary Schools

Five elementary schools provide a quality education for an estimated 1500 students. TRoosevelt Elementary he schools have a number of unique programs and curricula to ensure the academic success of every student, including: Small Class Size; Technology in the Classrooms; School Breakfast Programs; After School Programs; Balanced literacy/guided reading programming; and well aligned, rigorous curricula.

Additionally, SBPS elementary schools provide innovative applications of technology into all classrooms and incorporate sound instructional strategies grounded in a relationship driven environment of consistently high expectations for all children. Orchestra is offered to all fifth graders and a variety of co-curricular clubs and activities are featured at all schools.

    Bluffs Middle School (BMS)

BMS enrolls almost 800 students in three grades (6-8) in one of the most modern and appealing facilities available anywhere in region. The building was newly constructed and completely renovated in 2010.

A smooth transition from elementary to middle school is very important. Therefore, the 6th grade level is designed to help make this period an easy one. Students’ teams are nurturing and supportive with teachers and counselors particularly sensitive to the intellectual and social changes these children are experiencing

The school offers opportunities for advanced academic achievement. Beyond honors classes, students are also given the option to participate in high school algebra and high school physical science in the middle school.

As students progress into grades 7 and 8, academic challenge progresses right along with them. Advanced mathematics courses in Algebra as well as rigorous world language instruction including Spanish and even Chinese join a collection of exploratory and elective classes provided for students. In part due to the size of the school, Bluffs Middle School offers a remarkably diverse array of alternatives for students and sets a particularly engaging pathway for their preparation for high school and beyond.

In all grades, honors courses expand curricular offerings for students who are looking for more challenging academic opportunities.

    Scottsbluff High School (SHS)

SHS enrolls approximately 900 students and is growing every year. At SHS students will enjoy a variety of Career Academies to prepare them for future endeavors as they plan for college and career possibilities.
