Promethean Boards in Our Classrooms

By Sandy Porter
January 28, 2010

Last spring, a proposal was developed with the Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation and Scottsbluff Public Schools to integrate new technology using Promethean interactive whiteboards into science and math classrooms at Bluffs Middle School and Scottsbluff High School. Elementary buildings were not included in the proposal, since they are able to acquire whiteboards using Title I grant funding.  Since BMS and SHS are not identified as Title schools, they cannot access Title funding. Title I funding is federal money that must be used to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantaged, fostering academic achievement for disadvantaged and other at-risk children.

The Scottsbluff Public Schools’ Foundation committee, led by Dave Schaff and Julie Marshall, set a goal to raise $130,000 to purchase as many interactive white boards as possible. From the generosity of the Scottsbluff community and the determined support from the Foundation’s committee, this goal was met by Christmas of 2009. The Scottsbluff School District is very appreciative for this committee’s dedication and our community’s support of our community schools and ultimately the education of our children.

Those interested in the research supporting the use of Promethean interactive whiteboards in the classroom, can visit the following website: http://www.prometheanworld.com/upload/pdf/Preliminary_Report_on_ActivClassroom.pdf
Also, contact any of our Scottsbluff schools to arrange a visit to a classroom and see the difference interactive whiteboards have made to instruction, learning, and student achievement.
