Housing Project 2009-2010
In order to provide a more meaningful educational experience, Scottsbluff Senior High partnered with Twin Cities Development to provide a hands-on, real world classroom environment. The project stimulated 67 students to sign up for the program.
As of today, the house is framed, porch footings were poured, windows were installed, shingles were laid, most of the soffit and facia are installed, interior walls are being built and siding is about to begin.
What can students accomplish given the opportunity? On the average it takes a contractor 3-4 months to complete a home of this size; the average contractor works 8 to 10 hours per day for a total of 720 hours. Our basement wasn’t ready until the sixth week of school, we’ve worked approximately (at the time of these pictures) 8 weeks with an average of 2 hours per day for a total of 80 hours. We’ll get an equivalence of six forty hour work weeks; or 1.5 months to complete the project by the end of the school year.
