Hands-On Real World Experience
SHS construction trades students are proactively engaged in hands-on, real world construction projects. Last year they constructed four apartment units on the first floor of the Summit building. They also helped hang drywall and trimmed work on the temporary Bluffs Middle School in the old Aurora Loan Services building. This year, SHS has partnered with Twin Cities Development in providing the opportunity for students to construct a 1320 sq. ft single story house with basement and attached garage.
The future of the program is bright thanks to the maturity of the
past and present students in the program. I’m very proud of our
students; they show up to work on time, work well with each other,
follow directions, and show respect to myself and each other. They
always keep the work site clean and organized and tools are taken
care of and kept in their designated place. They have volunteered
to help out even after school when needed and show strong mature
work ethic and leadership skills. This is the place where their
Language Arts and Math Concepts learning are put into practice. The
students read blueprints and spec sheets for content, do math
computation with fractions and decimals, and perform an outcome
based learning application project. The proof of their knowledge is
evident in the quality of work they have and are doing. Please take
