Matching Campaign
There are expressions and experiences memorable only to those with a shared high school experience. For those who have walked the halls of SHS, the list is seemingly endless:
“Dash out to the Dash Inn, Mr. Frakes, Bon’s Point, walking to Scotty’s for lunch, S-Club, A Cappella, Mr. Trump, ‘Meet you at King’s,’ Skittens, Scottsbluff-Gering game, the Boo Crew, dragging Main, Leo Stangle, Madrigal Dinner, ‘Fight for dear old Scottsbluff,’ Carena Drive-In, Mrs. Diers.”
In the 1970s, James Taylor summed it all up poignantly: “But I still love those good times gone by, hold on to them close or let them go.”
One graduate of the Scottsbluff High School class of 1963 has clearly held on close to his experience of growing up and being educated in Scottsbluff Public Schools. Now residing in California, his appreciation for the quality of education he received in this western Nebraska community has led him to contribute significantly to Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation.
In 2003, he provided $200,000 to introduce Quantum Learning—the educational concept behind the nationally acclaimed Super Camps [www.supercamp.com]—in our school district. We have already seen positive results from this program including: more positive student behaviors and attitudes toward learning, stronger instructional delivery methods by teachers, and improved retention of information and test scores.
Now, this same alumnus, Russ Fuller, and his wife Anne have
generously offered to contribute an additional $250,000 to the
Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation for the expansion of academic
programming and have challenged the foundation to raise matching
funds. We are writing in hope that you will consider helping our
foundation raise funds to match this very generous donation.
By participating in this campaign, you will double your investment.
Your donation of $250 will equal $500 for the foundation. A gift of
$500 will equal $1,000. Our ultimate goal is to build an endowment
of more than $1 million, which will provide the resources to have a
meaningful impact on the lives and education of our students. For
gifts of $100 or more, we will send you a brass “SHS Bearcat”
Christmas tree ornament.

Funds raised through this matching campaign will be used to enrich education in our school district. Among the programs for which we would like to provide funding:
- Expansion of advanced placement classes
- Enhancement of math, science and reading programs
- Early childhood programs to prevent children from falling behind
- Introduction of foreign languages at the elementary level
- Making the arts an integral part of children’s lives
With your help, we hope to do much more. For more information about contributing to the foundation, please call (308) 635-7700 or (308) 635-6200. We appreciate each and every contribution. No gift is too small.
