Friend of Autism Awarded to Libby Lundgren

Scottsbluff Elementary Lincoln Heights second-grade teacher Libby Lundgren was recently given the Nebraska ASD Network's Friend of Autism Award. Pictured with her are the parents of a current student who nominated her.  She was surprised with the award while attending the state Autism Spectrum Disorders Conference in Kearney.

Lincoln Heights Chefs were honored with a surprise lunch.

Mrs.Kim Schanaman and Mrs. Rhonda O'Bryan serve a warm meal with a smile each day.  They have become a friend to each student and staff as they take a personal interest in our health and well being.   So to honor them, the courtesy committee surprised them with a catered lunch while Mr. Hoxworth served the lunches.

Student Leadership Teams

Mrs. Moran and the Environment Committee

The community service committee of Student Leadership helped with many activities during the 2009-2010 school year.   Every Tuesday throughout the school year the students have helped to collect, sort and supervise recycling for our building.  They have been very helpful!  They also assisted with planning Red Ribbon Week activities.  A used toy drive was coordinated for the Abate group who collected the toys from Lincoln Heights and brought them to the Knights of Columbus in October to be refurbished for families in need.  The committee also coordinated a can drive for the Gift of Love program sponsored by First State Bank.  We worked with our Adopt a School partner, US Bank, who helped us build a display that was awarded first place for elementary schools!  Our school was awarded $150!  One of our staff members, Amber Bravo, designed and assisted with this project as well.  A final project involved performing skits for classrooms for Earth Day.  The students shared pertinent information about why we need to recycle aluminum, plastic, and paper items.  They did a marvelous job!   We went on a field trip to the Scottsbluff Recycling center to learn about the different metals that they collect.  The students appeared very interested to find out that this business pays for the aluminum and metal items that are brought to them.

We wish our 5th graders good luck as they move on to middle school!

Mrs. Lind and the Sales Committee

During this school year, the school raised $374 in box tops! Student Leadership count and bundle all of those box tops. We have had successful sales on tattoos, Smencils, suckers, and our biggest hit—fresh baked chocolate chip cookies!  The sales committee went to the High School and check out their school store.  Thanks to Mr. Deaver for allowing that to take place and for letting Student Leadership use their special cookie oven for our cookie sales. With some of the money student leadership has raised, we have been able to purchase a new digital camera for the Web page Committee as well as purchase and pilot using iPods to listen to books on tape for a Listening Center.

What a successful year!

Mrs. Keszler and the Public Relations Committee

The public relations committee is devoted to recording the happenings at Lincoln Heights each year. They are heavily involved in photography and journalism.   Students take pictures and interview individuals and classrooms about their activities.  Each month students are recognized for the Keys of Excellence awards.  This  committee does an outstanding job of taking pictures, recording names, and posting photos in the hallways and on the Web page.  They also interview teachers and students and write articles about their findings.  They welcome visitors, performers, and partners in education and post their photos in various sections of the Lincoln Heights Web page.  They also assist students who need assistance with laptops and technology.

We are very grateful to the Star-Herald for our recent tour of their facility.  They are eager to help us produce an even better publication.
