Roosevelt 5th Grader Runner-up in Poster Contest

     Roosevelt 5th grader, Jazmin P., was named runner up in the Nebraska Arbor Day Poster Contest. She was presented with an award and honored at 12:50 pm on April 16, 2008 during a ceremony at her Roosevelt.
     Jazmin was presented with a $50 savings bond donated by the Nebraska Power Association for her participation and being named one of the runners up in the contest. Her teacher, Micheal Macias, received $250 for the purchase of a tree to be planted at the school and/or new educational materials. Approximately 700 fifth grade students from nearly 30 Nebraska schools participated in this year’s contest.

 Participants were asked to create a poster that represents the theme, “Trees are Terrific … inside and out!” During the course of their participation, students learn about the importance of trees and the benefits they provide.
    The National Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.  Visit www.arborday.org for online learning opportunities and educational materials for children and adults.

    The Nebraska competition is administered by the Nebraska Forest Service (www.nfs.unl.edu) and sponsored by the Nebraska Power Association (http://www.nepower.org), representing the utility companies of Nebraska.
