Response to Intervention (RtI) is part of an evaluation to determine if a child is eligible as a student with a learning disability.  It is a method of using carefully documented teaching to determine how much and under what conditions a child learns.

RtI is the practice of.......

  • Providing high quality instruction and intervention matched to student need
  • Monitoring progress frequently to make decisions about change in instruction or goals
  • Applying child response data to important educational decisions

CORE RtI PRINCIPLES

  • All students can learn
  • Early intervention is the best
  • Multi-tier models of instruction and intervention
  • Use of problem-solving models
  • Use of scientifically-validated instruction and assessment
  • Progress monitoring to inform instruction
  • Data-based decision making
  • Assessment informs instruction
