Roosevelt Remembers Dr. Martin Luther King
January 16, 2008
Students honored the great Dr. Martin Luther King during their annual assembly today, Wednesday, January 16th. Every year during the program, an individual from the community who exemplifies the qualities of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is presented with an award. This year's recipient was Mrs. Jackie Guzman.
Mrs. Guzman, former Roosevelt student and teacher, works at the UNL Panhandle Extension Center as an education coordinator. She also volunteers in many different organizations to help educate others about different cultures. In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Guzman told the students they need to plan for their future, get an education, and be the best that they can be.
Also during the ceremony, students heard a salute to Dr. King read by KDUH Sports Director John Clanton.
