Scottsbluff High School students and district patrons will now have a direct route to the school office through the new west entrance opening second semester. Construction that began approximately six months ago will be complete during the winter break, and school administrators and personnel will move into the new location next week.
“The new entrance is designed for students,” commented Superintendent Dr. Gary Reynolds. “The commons space will provide students a safe and spacious place to congregate, and the administrative office relocation will increase security with administration and the school resource officer located at the new main entrance on the west side of the building.”
Renovations also included changing the existing lecture hall into meeting rooms and adding two classrooms to the south end of the high school.
“By adding new academic courses to meet the needs of our students, we ran out of classroom space and, although we added additional teachers, there were not classrooms available for them. Last year, we had two teachers who had to move from room to room each class period to teach. Now, all of our teachers have their own classrooms,” said high school principal Galen Nighswonger.
A ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new entrance will be held on Monday, January 7th, at 9:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the event.
