BMS Marching Band Earns Superior Rating
Old West Weekend
October 22, 2007
The BMS 7th & 8th Grade Marching Band, under the director of Mr. Michael Koch, participated in the 25th Annual Old West Weekend Parade Competition on Saturday, October 13. They received a SUPERIOR Rating from all five judges at the competition.
The 95 young musicians from BMS worked very hard to prepare for this local event and we are pleased that their efforts and determination were recognized.
In this parade, the bands are judged on their marching (rank and file alignment, posture, step, precision, and instrument position). They are also judged on their playing (balance, tone quality, intonation, precision, tempo stability, and dynamics) and their appearance (uniform tidiness, players’ personal appearance, and instrument cleanliness).
The judges rate each band on the following scale:
SUPERIOR – Division
I
EXCELLENT – Division
II
GOOD – Division
III
FAIR – Division IV
PARTICIPANT – Division
V
This competition included three middle school/junior high bands and their ratings were as follows:
Bluffs Middle School – SUPERIOR
Alliance Middle School – SUPERIOR
Mitchell Jr. High School – EXCELLENT
