from the August 20th meeting

by Mindy Burbach

August 22, 2007

The Scottsbluff Public School Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, August 20th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Building.  Board members in attendance were Vice President Bob Kinsey, Mark Lang, Mike Shedd, and Megan Massey.

The board adopted a new progress report for the High Ability Learners (HALS) program.  HALS coordinator Merry Witzki showed the board the difference in the old report card and the new.  Mrs. Witzki told board members that the new progress report would keep the students and her more accountable to the five areas of motivation, problem solving, reasoning, creativity, and communication.

Also in new business, the board directed administration to contact architect Schemmer & Associates to develop budgets, plans, specifications and schedules for maintenance projects at each building.  At the retreat on August 14th, the board discussed what maintenance issues the district was facing in regards to each facility.

A surplus auction will be held on September 29th to sell obsolete equipment in the district.  The board approved a list of items from each building that will be sold at Hunts Acres.  An ad will run in the Star-Herald advertising the event.
In the last item of new business, the board accepted the resignation of President Tim Lordino.  Mr. Lordino is moving to Chadron to take a position as Police Chief with the Chadron Police Department.  The board directed Ms. Reyes, board secretary, to run an ad in the Star-Herald for two weeks asking anyone from the community interested in filling Lordino’s term to submit a letter of interest to The Central Administration Office by September 4th.  The board will then meet and designate a replacement for Mr. Lordino at the September 10th meeting.  The person(s) interested must be a registered voter and reside within the boundaries of the ScottsbluffSchool District#32.
