Scottsbluff Students Visit Capitol
Native American Students Make the 400 Mile Trek to Lincoln
May 24, 2007
Eleven students from Scottsbluff
/Gering made the 400 mile trip to the state's capital April 17th
and 18th. Two seventh grade students and five 8th grade
students from Bluffs Middle School, along with two freshman from
Scottsbluff High School and an 8th grader from Gering Junior High
left from Scottsbluff early the morning of the 17th.
On the second day, the group participated in the University of Nebraska at Lincoln's Native American/Hispanic Recruitment Day. This event shows students what campus life is like, as they stayed in dorms, and what to expect in college. For many, it was their first time in Lincoln.
"The students were awesome," commented trip coordinator Theresa Stands. "This trip showed the students that there are great things to accomplish after high school. They [the students] stepped foot on UNL's campus and saw the diversity of the student population, and how they would fit in on a college campus."
