8th Grade Band Wins Festival

     The Bluffs Middle School 8th Grade Band, under the direction of Mike Koch, performed for the Music In The Parks Festival on Saturday, May 12. The Festival was held in the Denver area, and the band performed at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, CO.  
    The band was judged on tone quality, intonation, rhythm, technique, and musicality. They performed two pieces for the judges "Of Wizards and Warriors" by Roland Barrett and "March Creole" by Stephen Bulla.
    The band received a Superior Rating from the judges and the first place trophy for Class A (schools of 750 or less). The band also received the trophy for Overall Junior High/Middle School Concert Band. The other schools that participated in the festival were Craver Middle School (Colorado City, CO), Lake Middle School (Denver, CO), Miller Middle School (Durango, CO), Pleasant View Middle School (Pueblo, CO), Southern Hills Middle School (Boulder, CO), Bloomfield High School (Bloomfield, NM), and Windthorst High School (Windthorst, TX).
    After the music festival the band went to Elitch Gardens and spent the rest of the day enjoying the park.

The Middle School Bands will be performing their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 17th in the Bluffs Middle School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
