SHS Site Council Meeting Minutes
February 12, 2007, Meeting
February 11, 2007
Meeting was called to order by Galen Nighswonger at 12:00 noon.
Chuck Elley, Laura Friedlein, John Gillen, Maria Hernandez, Sheryl
Holscher, Peggy Wells, Amy Westphal, Rich Wilberger and Robert
Wells were present.
The meeting opened with some discussion of the upcoming bond issue
election. It was mentioned that if the bond issue does not pass,
plans for SHS renovation and the new practice gym at the high
school would be affected. Budget money, currently targeted for the
high school, would need to be reallocated to the entire
district.
Galen reported that a peer teacher assistance program is being
instituted at the high school. The purpose of the program is to
provide a structure through which teachers will share their
strengths with each other.
As a lead-in to discussing the results of the SHS Parent Survey,
the site council participated in the "Purposeful Community
Assessment", a survey created by a company in Colorado. The goal of
the survey is for the community to communicate its idea of an ideal
school.
The results of the SHS Parent Survey were discussed. 900 surveys
were sent out. 170 were returned. Several suggestions were made
with the goal of increasing participation in the survey in mind.
One suggestion was to make the surveys available at parent teacher
conferences. The survey results were positive overall, but showed
some areas which could be improved.
The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m. Next meeting is scheduled for
3/12/07 at noon.
