Make it Orange and Make it End!

BMS Unites against Bullying

Unity Day

With cyber-bullying, and "bullycide" receiving national media attention, Bluffs Middle School students, staff and administration are taking a proactive approach in creating a caring community at BMS. Bluffs Middle School will be celebrating its annual Unity Day on Tuesday, November 8th.  The students will be participating in the following bullying awareness activities on this day:

The Secret Life of Girls Theater Performance - The Secret Life of Girls is a play about bullying; bullying in the form of gossiping, keeping secrets, using friendship as a weapon, name-calling, exclusion, spreading rumors, backbiting, clinging to cliques and manipulation that becomes a prelude to dangerous behaviors such as depression, cutting, eating disorders, and premature sexuality.  Scottsbluff High School's Theatre Class, under the direction of Kara Rada, has partnered with Bluffs Middle School to perform the play for BMS students.  The play was presented to our BMS students on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.  See the video clip below for excerpts.

Make it orange, and make it end - Students will be asked to wear orange as a way to unite against bullying and putting a stop to it at BMS.

In addition to the Unity day activities, the Bluffs Middle School Counseling staff will provide ongoing bullying awareness and prevention information and activities for students throughout the school year including classroom discussions and presentations and its annual "Mix it Up" day where students spend lunch sitting in randomly assigned places and hold guided discussions at their lunch table to get to know other students.
