Mr. Rick Myles, Superintendent
Mr. Myles earned his undergraduate degree in English from the University of Colorado. His ongoing work at CU also included a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development as well as subsequent credentialing in the superintendency. Prior to arriving in Scottsbluff he served six years as Community Superintendent with Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado where he supervised 38 schools serving approximately 23,000 students. While serving in this position, Mr. Myles initiated innovative practice in Jefferson County schools including the development of the area's first Arts and Humanities choice option (2007), Denver metro's first Dropout Prevention and Recovery office (2008), the implementation of a new International Baccalaureate (IB) program (2009), and the opening of a career and technical high school focused on health and technology (2009).
Prior to this position, Mr. Myles served as a middle school principal for 16 years during which time his schools' honors included the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, national recognition from the Americans with Disabilities Council, and inclusion in the National Association of Secondary School Principals study of 100 Highly Successful Middle Schools. He was also a state and national presenter regarding effective middle school practice. Mr. Myles began his education career as an English/Language Arts teacher in Littleton Public Schools, Colorado where he was recognized as a Colorado Awards Honoree.
Mr. Myles brings an enthusiastic determination to educational leadership and has demonstrated an ability to inspire and support school communities and the students they serve.
Mrs. Lavon Hood, Director of Finance
Mrs. Hood joined Scottsbluff Public Schools in October 2008. Prior to working for the schools, she worked in the corporate sector most recently with Hewlett Packard in various areas including Financial Services, Business Process Outsourcing and managed a Hewlett Packard global business process team with employees in India, China, Romania, and Poland.
Mrs. Hood holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from National American University, and a Master in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
Mrs. Hood is a certified PMP (Project Management Professional) with the Project Management Institute. She is also a member of the Association of School Board Officials (ASBO) and serves as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff.
Mr. Mike Mason, Director of Curriculum & Instruction
Mr. Mason earned his undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of Wyoming. He received a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Black Hills State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Chadron State College. He recently completed his Education Specialist Degree (School Superintendent) at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Mr. Mason began his education career by serving as an elementary teacher in Wyoming for 10 years. His administrative experience includes five years as an elementary principal, two years as Assistant Principal at Bluffs Middle School, and four years as Principal at Bluffs Middle School.
Mr. Mason is a member of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Mrs. Wendy Kemling-Horner, Director of Student Services
Mrs. Kemling-Horner earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics with an emphasis in education from Colorado State University in 1996. She later earned her Master’s of Education from Regis University. Mrs. Kemling-Horner has endorsements in Administration, Special Education Mild to Moderate Needs, Special Education Severe Needs Cognitive, and Alternative Cooperative Education.
Wendy Kemling-Horner is a member of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, Phi Lambda Theta, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Council of Exceptional Children, National Association of Professional Women, Nebraska Association of Special Education Supervisors Region V - President, LifeLinks Advisory Board, Nebraska State Educational Advisory Committee for Autism, Early Childhood Planning Region 13 – Co-Chair, Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council - Chairman, Early Childhood Conference Committee, and CASA Board of Directors. Mrs. Kemling-Horner is also on several state committees. Mrs. Kemling-Horner has been a volunteer and coach for Special Olympics for more than 20 years.
